San Jose Jazz Festival: a memorable event, but with room for improvement

Despite some great performers in the lineup, year after year the defining artists of jazz's mainstream -- Roy Hargrove, Christian McBride, Branford Marsalis, Nicholas Payton, Brad Mehldau, Joshua Redman (who lives in the Bay Area) and many others -- are absent from the festivities in San Jose.
