A.C. Newman, shooting from the hip

A.C. Newman can't lose. Along with former Chicagoan Neko Case, the Canadian vocalist/guitarist anchors the indie-rock supergroup New Pornographers. In his spare time, he moonlights as a solo artist, making deceivingly minimalist pop songs that sound as if they are written for marching bands. Accordingly, he's touring behind his new "Guilt Guilty" (Matador) with a support quintet that includes a violinist and trumpeter.
