The BBC has been forced to issue a humiliating apology for alleging in a succession of reports that millions of dollars raised by the 1985 Live Aid concerts were used to buy arms, instead of feeding the victims of famine in Ethiopia. The British broadcaster also said sorry to Irish rocker Bob Geldof, one of the event's organizers, who said he hoped that the apology would help to repair some of the "appalling damage" caused by the claims.
