That’s not to say that the writer of that article (Jon Caramanica) or the Times is an ultra-credible source for music news and opinion, but really... is he talking about the same girl singing about waking up feeling like P. Diddy and brushing her teeth with Jack? Sure, it’s a catchy tune, but that’s all.
