Review: Doug Carn opens Bay Area tour

Thursday at Cafe Stritch in San Jose, Hammond B-3 organist Doug Carn, a '70s jazz hero, opened a rare Bay Area tour. His powerful band, featuring saxophonists Howard Wiley and Teodross Avery, also plays Friday and Saturday at Savanna Jazz in San Francisco and Sunday at the Kuumbwa Jazz Center in Santa Cruz, where it will record a live album.
