The National Bring Sufjan Stevens to Sing Backup on "Letterman"

Photo by Sylvere.H When the National played their song "Afraid of Everyone" on "The Late Show With David Letterman" last night, they brought along very special back up singer Sufjan Stevens to reprise some of the same coos he performs on the High Violet version of the track. His suit does not hold up next to Matt Berninger's, though. I'm sorry. The song is tense and brooding with a gradual rising action, like some other National songs you may be familiar with.
