Uriel Jones, the last surviving drummer from Motown studio band the Funk Brothers, died from heart attack-related complications yesterday in Michigan. Jones was brought to the Motown fold as Marvin Gaye's tour drummer, but he caught on with the label at the right time—in 1964, as the label was achieving national acclaim, he filled in for Motown's primary drummer, the ailing Benny Benjamin.
