Anat Fort: And If | CD review

(ECM)Tel Aviv pianist Anat Fort made her debut for ECM six years ago, with no less a drummer than Paul Motian in the band. In fact, it was Motian's enthusiasm for her graceful folksiness (via Keith Jarrett and Israeli traditional songs) with free-jazz detours that brought her to ECM's attention in the first place. On this long-postponed follow-up, a familiar ECM fragility opens the show, with softly splashed notes gently prodded by the double-bass into Jarrett-reminiscent folk song resolutions....
