Meanwhile, the subtleties of a rat-infested Lohengrin were lost on the starry first-night audience…Lab rats, a dead horse and bridesmaids with long, pert rodent tails and hybrid dahlias on their heads hardly feature in the original of Wagner's Lohengrin.
