Cabrillo Festival's Marin Alsop — not your usual symphony conductor

A trendsetter, she is the first woman ever to lead a major American orchestra: the Baltimore Symphony. In the 1970s and '80s, she often worked as a New York studio musician, playing violin on television commercials. Her old swing band, String Fever, recorded with Billy Joel.
