The existence of Mariah Carey's secret '90s grunge album was first revealed in her 2020 memoir  The Meaning Of Mariah Carey . In 1995, Someone's Ugly Daughter was released under the band name Chick without her lead vocals. It was inspired by Sleater-Kinney and L7 and Carey has been "on a quest" to find the version of the LP with her lead vocals intact so she could put it out; last fall she talked with SZA and Jimmy Fallon about the mission.
