The new track "Violescent" is a crunchy, groovy sludge metal piece with a melodic bent that actually sounds like a convincing hybrid of the three famous bands whose members constitute this thing. Hajjar's drumming is somehow driving and stuttering at the same time, Van Leeuwen's guitar playing has the sleazy edge of the later QOTSA albums that he contributed to, and Sanders' meaty vocals lend the howling, seething quality of some of Mastodon's better work...
