Guest blogger: Remembering MTV’s '120 Minutes'

On March 10, 1986, MTV began airing 120 Minutes. Originally developed as a way for the network to promote college rock/underground acts, the show quickly became the only place where viewers could see clips from performers who were -- to borrow title of a frequently played Suzanne Vega video -- a bit "left of center."
