In 2008 Minneapolis-born singer José James put out The Dreamer, a vocal jazz record that James himself mostly produced himself. For his new album, Blackmagic, James brought in other producers, most notably Flying Lotus, to lend a hand. It may seem like an odd pairing, especially if you've just listened to recent bangers like "Computer Face//Pure Being".
