I was distressed to read the letter from Phil Barker and Poppy Buchanan-Barker (26 July, in response to Amy is dead, a myth is born, 25 July). I have what they refer to as "a genuine illness" (genetic cardiomyopathy), with a terminal diagnosis to boot, and it would be nice to be able to "decide to recover" or "talk [my] way to health" as they suggest some addicts can. But the fact I cannot does not mean I cannot extend sympathy to those who fight other afflictions. I know little about Amy Wineho...
