Long Island has become a musical desert for bands playing original material

When rising stars Sunflower Bean launched their career in the basement of drummer Jacob Faber's mother's Glen Head home, their path was clear: Leave Long Island. It wasn't that long ago that Taking Back Sunday and Brand New led a thriving Long Island music scene that drew all sorts of record labels to Farmingdale and Amityville to sign new acts to deals.
