Nikki Iles: Hush – review

(Basho)Maybe because she doesn't play Radiohead or splice jazz with hip-hop, pianist Nikki Iles can be sidelined as unfashionably orthodox – but she's one of the UK's best-kept secrets, with a silvery touch and uncloying emotional warmth. This session with New York's Rufus Reid and drummer Jeff Williams is long overdue. Kenny Wheeler's much-covered Everybody's Song But My Own opens in quiet respect for the composer's creative melancholy, but builds to a dancing vivacity. Iles's own Meditations...
