Just a few small tweaks, and Jack Johnson's show at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night would have been perfect. First, the time of day--his songs are meant for lazy beach afternoons.
Hearing them after sunset feels disorienting. Second, the location: the Garden, it's just so claustrophobic, so air-conditioned, so indoors. Let those breezy rhythms breathe. Third, the crowd: let's lose about 17,000 or so of those people, swaying arrhythmically to Mr. Johnson's songs, light as tissue paper...
