Powerful Iraqi political leader Abdul Aziz Hakim dies

Hakim headed the Supreme Islamic Iraqi Council and was a top member of the U.S.-appointed Governing Council. He was an ally of both the U.S. and Iran. Hakim, 59, died after a battle with lung cancer. Abdul Aziz Hakim, one of Iraq's most powerful political leaders and the head of one of its most prominent Shiite religious dynasties, died today in a Tehran hospital, his party's television channel reported.
