Raphael Saadiq plays Fillmore New York

He looks maaahvelous. The cover of Raphael Saadiq's 2008 album, "The Way I See It" (Columbia), evokes the dramatic portraits and color schemes of old-school jazz and soul albums. Think Ray Charles on Atlantic, Sonny Rollins on Blue Note, Sam and Dave on Stax. It depicts a bespectacled Saadiq looking dapper in suit and tie. With arms raised, he looks as if he's testifying as much as singing.
