In a San Francisco recital Tuesday, Adès performed his own music '” a U.S. premiere '” amid works by Beethoven, Schubert, Liszt, Janacek and Prokofiev. His affinity for those composers is deep. The program proved enigmatic and quietly unsettling, very much a 21st century event.
