Review: Pianist George Cables takes listeners on a journey through time at Stanford Jazz Festival

Cables, now in his mid-60s, grew up in New York in an era when you might run into Miles Davis walking down the street. He spent years gigging with Sonny Rollins, Dexter Gordon, Max Roach, Art Pepper and so many others. In concrete ways, all that life experience flowed into Monday's performance at Dinkelspiel Auditorium.
