Lotfi Mansouri, who led the San Francisco Opera as its general director from 1988 to 2001, died Friday at his San Francisco home after a bout with pancreatic cancer. He is remembered for introducing supertitles to the world of opera, generally, and bringing new works to San Francisco, including composer Stewart Wallace's 'Harvey Milk' about the slain San Francisco supervisor and John Adams' 'The Death of Klinghoffer' about the hijacking of the Achille Lauro cruise ship.
