Stella Nova

My friend Stella Nova, who has died of cancer, aged 50, was one of punk rock's most underrated guitarists. He played with the Rich Kids, Public Image Ltd, Iggy Pop, David Bowie and Johnny Thunders. He was born Steve New, but by the time I met him, on Brick Lane in east London, in 2004, he had changed his name.He grew up in London and attended Quintin Kynaston school in St John's Wood, north-west London.
