Switchfoot steps ahead

The last few years have been transformative for Switchfoot, the San Diego-born power-pop unit that, after gaining popularity on the Christian music scene, broke into the mainstream with its 2003 album “The Beautiful Letdown.” Despite reasonable success in the early to mid-2000s, the group split with longtime label Columbia Records in 2007, opting to record its latest album, “Hello Hurricane,” independently.
