New 2-CD set captures an incendiary 1966 Otis Redding gig at an L.A. club

The R&B star, who died in a plane crash a year later at age 26, represented a different school of soul music than the Motown sound that had already been experienced on the Sunset Strip. Ry Cooder, a member of the band opening for Redding, recalls the difference being as great as that separating Detroit from Memphis.
